Gordon Tasmania Waterfront Panorama

Gordon Tasmania Waterfront Land Sale

Views to Bruny Island over the
D'Entrecasteaux Channel - What a great area for a sea change!

Your new block at Gordon is just waiting to provide the base for your new lifestyle, about 50km South of Hobart (and 40km South of the rapidly expanding Kingston district).  You will enjoy a pleasant scenic and relaxing drive along the Channel Highway.

Peaceful, serene, great water views over D'Entrecasteaux Channel to Bruny Island, and with easy access to some of the best fishing, sailing and scuba diving in Tasmania (See www.tasfish.com). The Channel is home to a cornucopia of native sea life including fairy penguins, sea eagles, stingrays, seals and even dolphins - the odd passing whale isn't that uncommon either. And if that's not enough, a short 5 minutes drive will take you to a spectacular and largely undiscovered* sandy beach at Verona Sands - perfect!

At Gordon you are far removed from the bustle and stresses of city living, but in no way are you remote - the Middleton General Store (petrol and general supplies) is 5 minutes away, and the magnificent Peppermint Bay Restaurant is only about 13 minutes drive (see map), there are also many more shops, restaurants and other businesses nearby at Flowerpot, Woodbridge, Kettering, Oyster Cove, Snug, Margate and Kingston.

The block for sale is virtual waterfront and is 2.476 ha (roughly 100m wide by 250m deep) of light bushland situated at 5112 Channel Highway. The front of the block is level, rising gently at the rear to provide potential building sites that can maximise the expansive outlook. This block provides great scope for building your dream home, as well as offering potential for a B&B, accomodation, or other tourism or cottage industry venture.

If you missed The Gourmet Farmer on SBS, I suggest you click on the this link to gain further insight into the potential of the Huon/Channel region - particularly the fishing/seafood highlighted in episode 3!  Matthew Evans, previously Australia's most feared food critic, is absolutely blown away by the quality and potential of the local produce!

Here is a Google Maps Link for you to explore more closely, or check out in street view. Turn to the left in street view to see the block. The power pole near the driveway is number 627 on the Channel Highway. If you are in the market for land in the Channel area, it's definitely worth a visit!  You can also scroll down this page to find a view of the block in Google street view.

Please contact me at Gordon.tas@gmail.com (this is the preferred contact method and you can usually expect a response in less than 12 hours) or phone 0402 609932 for more information.  If you have any questions about Gordon, the Channel area, or Tasmania, I am more than happy to answer them if I can (by email only, sorry!)

Note: Just a reminder the driveway is near power pole number 627 Channel Highway.

Best regards,
David.

*largely undiscovered - by this I mean that I have been to Verona Sands beach several times on warm, fine, sunny summer days and found that the beach is either deserted or has four or less visitors.  I can't guarantee this, but check it out for yourself when you visit!

Schools Near Gordon

Availability of quality education is an important consideration for families when contemplating any move, and Gordon has plenty to offer - there are four great schools nearby, two of which are kindergarten to grade 10, and the other two are primary schools.

The closest school is the award winning Woodbridge School which is about 15 km (12 minutes drive) away on the way to Hobart. To quote from their web site "Woodbridge School is situated in the stunning rural environment on the western shore of the Southern D’Entrecasteaux Channel, in Southern Tasmania. Established on its current site in 1953 the School has a strong community focus. It caters for the needs of students from a wide geographical area, and from Kindergarten to Year 10. The school offers the facilities and curriculum of urban schools with the benefits of a safe, clean and peaceful marine rural environment. The school’s facilities include recently renovated early childhood, primary and secondary areas which are spacious and welcoming. Primary and secondary students have access to specialist facilities including kitchen, workshop, science laboratory, the farm and computer laboratory."

Other choices within easy reach are the St James Catholic College at Cygnet (K-10), Cygnet Primary School and Snug Primary School.

Your children will benefit from the nurturing, caring community and relaxed rural settings unique to this region.

Accommodation at Gordon

Gordon is an excellent base for tourists to access local attractions and activities, including fishing, bush walking, vineyards, restaurants and historical sites in the south of Tasmania. Unlike the majority of easily accessible scenic locations in Australia that are near capital cities, it remains largely undiscovered with huge potential for future development and growth.

If you are planning a visit, or wish to get some inspiration for what is possible for your own lifestyle business, you may like to check out web sites for Channel Vista Accomodation or Three Hut Point Waterfront Accomodation, which are both located on the Channel Highway just a few minutes away from the vacant land available.

Ned Trewartha Wooden Boats Gordon

A local business worth a closer look. To quote a profile piece from Ned's web site:

"Ned is a traditional wooden boat builder, specializing in dinghies. He works his magic in a simple wooden shed at Gordon, Tasmania, over looking the waters of the D'Entrecasteaux Channel and Bruny Island.

A man attuned to the painstaking details that make a wooden boat sing. One of the first graduates of the Shipwright's Point School of Wooden Boat Building diploma course. Ned has operated his boat building and repair business for twelve years and has added nautical furniture and half models to his business.

It takes 200-250 hours to make a dinghy, using hand tools that carry the knowledge of artisans long gone. Each piece of timber has its own history - a section of convict cut Huon Pine carried by the river into Macquarie Harbour, Oregon rescued for mast and spars from a demolished building from the last century. King Billy recycled from the West Coast mines near Rosebury."

One of the Greatest 100 Trips of the World!

If you are visiting the Channel region you simply must make time for a trip with Bruny Island Cruises! They were recently voted one of the top 100 trips in the world. A similar, complimentary, business could obviously also be successful if based in Gordon.

To quote the Bruny Island Cruises web site:

"Welcome aboard Rob Pennicott's multi-award winning Bruny Island Cruises, provider of Tasmania's leading wilderness and wildlife adventure cruise, winner of Tasmania's Best Tourist Attraction in 2006 & 2008.
Join Bruny Island Cruises Full Day Tour from Hobart or meet us at Adventure Bay, Bruny Island to board one of our custom designed boats for a 50km, three hour cruise along the coastline of Bruny Island. Spend a full three hours travelling along Bruny Island's rugged Southern Tasmanian coastline to spot the island's abundant sea and coastal wildlife such as seals, dolphins, whales, albatross and other seabirds. Sit at the bottom of Bruny Island's towering sea cliffs, feel the joy of being surrounded by 1000s of seals and watching dolphins surf on the bow wave of the boat.
Bruny Island Cruises' boats are especially designed for eco-cruising. Their open design and excellence in manoeuvrability allows our passengers to get up as close as possible to sea and coastal wildlife, cliff faces, sea-caves, and feel the joy of passing between the narrow gap between the coast and The Monument, a tall and slender sea stack."
